APL Innovates Female Cricket

The Adelaide Premier League Innovates in The Female Space

With the intention of driving interest and excitement into the female cricket space in SA, the Adelaide Premier League has added some exciting innovations to the Female U/23 tournament.

Working closely with Jakarra Hill and Sarah Lowe, two prominent figures in SACA female cricket, the APL will be incorporating the following updates;

    • The Female APL will become an U/23 tournament
    • The Female U/23 tournament will adopt The Century format off the back of a successful Senior BPL|02 Century tournament
    • Each franchise will select one ‘Trailblazer’ pre-draft, a player over the age of 23 who will act as a leader and mentor
    • Each franchise will select 2 players from an interstate draft which will happen at the beginning of the Female U/23 draft from a pool of interstate nominees

SACA’s Sarah Lowe said;

“I’m excited to be involved with a competition that provides opportunities to girls between club and state cricket where they can test themselves against their peers and role models. Trailblazers and interstate players make the competition cutting edge and I can’t wait to see the hundred format trialed for the first time in female cricket here”

The APL are excited about the prospect of providing a new and exciting format for female cricketers in SA to showcase their talent at the same time injecting interstate talent to strengthen the competition and provide learning opportunities for local players.

Jakarra Hill made the following comment on the APL innovations;

“I am stoked by the opportunity for young women to see an exciting new competition promoted alongside their male peers. Women’s cricket has grown significantly in recent years but the opportunity for girls on the fringe of High Performance is a space that would be great to fill. The APL is an opportunity to take a competition by storm! To play with and against new teams, including players from interstate and from country regions. A chance to connect with trailblazers of the game in a new 100-ball format and a local hero player providing a pathway for leadership and development. One weekend, carnival format, best grounds in Adelaide – let’s go!”

For any female cricketers both in South Australia and around the country who are interested in participating in this exciting new tournament, dates and the nomination link are below.
